This is a four-part training package that shows the user how to improve speed and stability and how to troubleshoot errors using FLO-2D, the GDS and other processor programs.

Optimization

The model is controlled by a time step that automatically decrements due to exceeding a numerical stability criteria. If “sticky” grid elements are causing the time step to decrement too many times, it can be modified to prevent this. More information on this topic is available in the FLO-2D Reference Manual and the Data Input Manual (toler.dat tab). Both of these are installed with the software here:

Limiting Froude Number and Depth Variable n-Value

FLO-2D software uses the concept of a limiting Froude number to help control numerical stability between grid elements. The limiting Froude number use is outlined in the FLO-2D Reference Manual and the Data Input Manual. Both of these are installed with the software here:
